Compress Your Photo to Under 200KB

The US DV Lottery (Diversity Visa) portal, many Schengen visa application systems, and university scholarship portals cap photos at 200KB or 240KB. This limit balances file size with enough quality for biometric matching. This tool compresses your photo to stay under 200KB — on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which portals require photos under 200KB?
The US Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery (dvlottery.state.gov) requires a JPEG under 240KB — 200KB gives a safe margin. Many Schengen visa portals, UK online passport renewal (HMPO), and international scholarship portals also cap at 200KB.
Is the DV Lottery photo the same as a US passport photo?
Nearly, but not identical. The DV Lottery requires a square JPEG, 600×600 px minimum, under 240KB, with the face filling 50–69% of the frame. US passport photos are 2×2 inch (51×51mm). Use the US Visa Photo tool on this site for the correct square crop, then compress here if needed.
Why use 200KB rather than compressing lower when the portal accepts up to 200KB?
Higher file sizes retain more image quality. Biometric facial recognition systems used in US and EU visa processing perform better on higher-quality input. Submitting a 200KB JPEG rather than a 50KB one reduces the risk of a biometric mismatch at the consulate.
